Connection Problems

3/31/2009 10:10:29 AMtrivia

We are experiencing some problems with our server hosts which may be causing some of you to have problems connecting or even accessing interactrivia.com. The problems have been going on for 2 days and we hope to have resolution shortly.

On Friday, March 27 at 11:10 AM PDT, and again today Monday, March 30 at 12:25 PM PDT, GoGrid suffered a series of large scale distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks that affected the network connectivity of many GoGrid servers.

These network attacks were of a type that we had not seen before, and which our automated network attack prevention hardware was unfortunately unable to prevent.

We estimate that up to 25% of GoGrid customers had servers that were either unreachable or had degraded network performance and packet loss during significant parts of both of these attacks, and at times as much as half of you were affected more briefly. We know that many of you rely on GoGrid to run your critical Internet infrastructure, and apologize for the impacts to your business that these attacks may have caused.

Looking For Teachers

12/2/2008 10:51:37 PMtrivia

We are looking for a few teachers to act as an advisory panel for an "InteracTrivia" styled project to bring interactive, trivia-based learning/repetition to classroom teachers around the world. Our goal is to allow teachers to offer their students a fun and compelling place to learn classroom materials with minimal work required to get going. We have a pretty good handle on the vision at this point but would love to hear from those of you "in the trenches" on issues of functionality and implementation.

We feel that trivia-based learning can be a valuable complement to the classroom approach by encouraging competition/reward and repetition. Our goal is to give teachers the tools to be able to quickly launch their own trivia games with content that reinforces or complements classroom learning goals and control over game participants and activity with minimal effort. Once we have an advisory team together, I will give more details on what we hope to accomplish.

If you are interested in helping us tune this project for the greatest success please send an email to dreicher [at] interactrivia [dot] com with your name, location and grade(s)/subject(s) you teach. Please include any opening thoughts you may have on the idea. We know your time is valuable and will respect it as so.

Please confine discussion to the forum thread located here.

Thank you in advance,
Dan, aka "trivia"

Help Us Improve

10/6/2008 7:28:21 PMtrivia

As we continue to add new features to our game platform it's becoming even more obvious that one area we desperately need to concentrate on is our questions. In an attempt to speed up the process of growing our question base significantly we're hoping that you (our wonderful users) will assist us. You will find a link at the top of the channel selection page that opens a form to submit questions for inclusion in our games. The form should open in a new window allowing you enter a few questions even while enjoying one of our games.

We appreciate the continued support and contributions from all our loyal users and hope that you will join us in a concerted effort to grow the number of questions in our database.

In the spirit of trivia, here's some Halloween related trivia:

New Interactive Map

10/21/2007 8:55:49 AMInteracTrivia Support

One of the most common feature requests we get is to make the in-game map a bit more "interactive".

You asked, we delivered. Starting today, you will be able move your mouse over a point on the map to see the name of the player. Clicking on their map point will bring up their profile - where you can see their point totals, scoring averages and a larger version of their avatar.

Plus, as an added bonus - you can now zoom and pan the entire map. Click the magnifying glass in the lower-left corner of the map to blow it up to 2 times normal size and use your mouse to drag it around.

Add Multiplayer Trivia Games To Your Own Site

10/20/2007 7:35:17 PMInteracTrivia Support

Over the past couple of months we've received numerous requests on adding our trivia games to other sites. So, instead of keeping all the fun to ourselves - we've built a brand new platform that allows anyone to add the same interactive, multiplayer games you love on their own site.

Site operators can build their own game channels, using their own questions and content. Smaller sites, fan sites, club sites, and the like can add a single channel for free. We have service plans available to larger sites to accomodate any needs.

A total online management system is available for managing channels and content, as well as a full web services API for the greatest level of control.

Full details and to get started, visit http://api.interactrivia.com.

We've decided to test enabling guest access to our game system. You may now enjoy InteracTrivia games without registering. Some game features are disabled during guest access - most notably you will not be able to chat with other players and scores will not be saved.

If all goes well during the testing phase, we hope to make this a permanent option.

Save Quotes

1/25/2007 12:00:00 AMInteracTrivia Support

So, you're playing a game and between questions a quote comes on the screen that is so profound, so earth-shatteringly poignant, so revolutionary and BAM! - it's gone. Well, no more.

A couple of loyal users thought it would be a good feature to allow users to save these gems for later digestion and we couldn't have agreed more. So, when you a see a quote you like - hit the save icon in the lower-right corner of the quote area and it will be saved in your account for you to revisit a little later.

Simply sign-in to your account page and click 'My Quotes' from the account menu and all your favorites will be there for your review. Delete them, print them out or copy-and-paste into an e-mail to spread the insight around the world.

Special thanks to users cmrabbu and wadd0009 for their feedback and bringing this great new feature to our attention.

28% more Trivia Fun!

12/22/2006 12:00:00 AMInteracTrivia Support

Based on user feedback, we have made some exciting changes to our trivia games. Most importantly, we've squeezed 11 more trivia questions into our half-hour game format. Now, each game is packed full with 32 questions (4 rounds of 8 questions) - replacing the old 25-question format - a 28% increase in questions per game.

With the new game format, we had to pick up the pace quite a bit to fit it all in, so be ready for some quick answer action.

Where do you stand?

7/5/2006 12:00:00 AMInteracTrivia Support

InteracTrivia announces the public-beta release of its new multiplayer, online trivia game for the PC. InteracTrivia's software allows users from around the world to compete against one another in real-time, head-to-head trivia game play for free. An ever expanding database of questions ensure games stay fun and fresh - whether it's your 1st game or 1000th. Multiple game channels allow users to compete in various categories of trivia (general trivia, sports trivia, movie trivia, music trivia, bible trivia, etc.) depending on their interests. Players compete against one another by correctly - and quickly - answering trivia questions, with all users getting the exact same questions at the same time. The integrated chat features allows game players to discuss anything in real-time and an integrated leaderboard lets players know exactly "where they stand" in a game. Other features include superb graphics, fun in-game Flash animations and much, much more.

In addition to head-to-head competition, InteracTrivia is the only game of its kind to rank users with its exclusive PowerRank system. The PowerRank system categorizes users similar to IQ scoring, where players who compete favorably gain a higher ranking in relation to all other players.

Future plans for include release of Pocket PC and Windows Media Center editions of it's game play software (both currently in private beta testing) - allowing users of those platforms to compete in trivia games with existing InteracTrivia PC users. "While most trivia sites work on a cumulative point basis," says InteracTrivia company president, "we feel the PowerRank system gives us in edge in allowing users to accurately rate themselves against other players. Cumulative point systems tend to reflect a players free time more than their actual trivia knowledge."

Partnership opportunities available with InteracTrivia, Inc. include in-game advertising, channel hosting, co-branded gaming software, and corporate training packages with proprietary clients and completely editable questions database.

InteracTrivia, Inc. is a pioneer in the convergence of Macromedia Flash and Microsoft .Net technologies to create feature-rich and engaging real-time multiplayer games.
